A Summary of the September 2007 Hack-a-thon II

Hack-a-thon II once again brought together people interested in Cell technology from all over the country. Experts in bioinformatics, cryptography, and computer science ventured to Austin, Texas for the Power Architecture Developer Conference and Hack-a-thon II. As with Hack-a-thon I, the relaxed, open, creative atmosphere lent itself to cross-discipline collaboration and four days of learning about the Cell BE microprocessor.

  • Terra Soft opened the event with a demonstration and HOWTO for building a PS3 cluster using Yellow Dog Linux and Y-HPC.

  • There was expert instruction and impromptu tutelage from industry experts at RapidMind, IBM, and CMPWare.

  • Six new projects were initiated.

  • Where attendees of Hack-a-thon I enjoyed a day of outdoor wintertime activities, Hack-a-thon II attendees enjoyed the restaurants and entertainment of downtown Austin, Texas ... and late night salsa instruction from IBM's Monza Lui.
